Prevención de la Rabia
Según describe la OMS, la rabia es una zoonosis (enfermedad que puede ser transmitida al ser humano por animales) causada por un virus que afecta el sistema nervioso de los huéspedes infectados.
¿Cómo se transmite?
Por mordeduras, lamidos, rasguños y por contacto con saliva de un animal rabioso. En Chile el principal reservorio de la enfermedad son los murciélagos, por lo cual es importante conocer algunos de los síntomas que manifiestan éstos animales cuando presentan la enfermedad:
- Apariciones diurnas (los murciélagos normalmente son de hábitos nocturnos).
- Dificultad para volar: desorientación, choques involuntarios y caídas al suelo.
¿Qué hacer frente a una mordedura?
- Lavar la herida con abundante agua y jabón o detergente.
- Aplicar una solución desinfectante en la herida (povidona yodada)
- Acudir a la posta o consultorio más cercano.
- Seguir las indicaciones médicas.
¿Cómo evitamos la enfermedad?
- Vacunando anualmente nuestros perros y gatos mayores de 3 meses. La vacuna debe ser administrada por un médico veterinario.
- Prohibir a los niños jugar con murciélagos.
- No entrar en sectores cerrados donde se encuentren murcielagos.
- En caso de ser necesaria la manipulación de un murciélago, se debe utilizar guantes de protección.
